M-Changa Fees

M-Changa provides a secure, convenient way to raise funds online. Our fees support platform operations, automated donor and fundraiser notifications, customer support, and the safe delivery of funds—while remaining affordable and transparent for fundraisers. In fact, 67% of fundraisers report raising more by using M-Changa, reflecting the value of our tools, transparency, and trusted payment systems.

No hidden fees

There are no hidden fees on M-Changa. Fundraisers and treasurers are shown any applicable fees in advance, and are notified before withdrawals are processed.

1) M-Changa Platform Fee (4.25%)

The platform fee covers the core tools and infrastructure that enable fundraising on M-Changa, including campaign management, reporting, and secure payment handling.

  • 4.25% on all donations
Example: On a KES 1,000 donation, the M-Changa platform fee is KES 42.50.

Reduced Platform Fee (3.5%)

A reduced fee applies to fundraisers that raise KES 3,000,000 or more within 30 days. This is applied automatically.

  • 3.5% on all donations
Example: On a KES 1,000 donation, the M-Changa platform fee is KES 35.00.

2) Withdrawal Charges

Withdrawals depend on the method you choose. Any applicable charges are shown before you confirm a withdrawal.

Mobile Money

Standard mobile money withdrawal charges apply to all mobile money withdrawals and are clearly shown before withdrawal.

Kenyan Bank / EFT

  • KES 550 flat fee per EFT withdrawal for amounts below KES 500,000.
  • Free for EFT withdrawals of KES 500,000 and above.

International Bank Transfer

  • USD 25 fee per international bank transfer withdrawal..

3) Donation Processing Fees (payment providers)

Donation processing fees may apply, depending on the payment method. These fees are charged by payment service providers and are passed on transparently. The applicable rate is shown clearly at the point of donation and does not include any additional markup by M-Changa.

  • M-Pesa and Mobile Money: 0%
  • Visa / Mastercard / PayPal: 2.5%

4) SMS Fees (Kenya fundraisers)

M-Changa allows fundraisers in Kenya to thank and update their supporters via SMS.

  • Each fundraiser receives 250 free SMS messages to get started. After that, additional SMS messages are charged based on the number of donors on your fundraiser:
  • KES 2.00 per SMS — 1 - 1,000 donors
  • KES 1.00 per SMS — 1,001 - 2,500 donors
  • KES 0.60 per SMS — 2,501+ donors

As your fundraiser grows, the cost per SMS decreases. All SMS charges are visible before messages are sent.

Automated SMS messages are always free. M-Changa automatically sends SMS messages to donors to thank them, confirm their donation, and provide updates at no cost.
